What I've learned from geocaching

Postby Guest » Tue Jul 15, 2008 10:10 pm

I came across this topic while geo-surfing. There are a lot of "I've been there" thoughts that made me smile. I'm sure there are other lessons that fellow cachers can add.

1. Yes, it is possible to get the logbook back into the nano!
2. The easy path up the hill is only visible from the top.
3. Somedays you get the cache. Other days the cache gets you.
4. Don't let the search obscure the view.
5. "As the crow flies" only works for crows.
6. The creek is always 1" deeper than your boots are high.

Great topic Countypals!
I've got one you can probably file under "Likely to Learn".

One of these day I'm going to be sorry for sticking my hand in that hidey hole without looking first.

Yup! All 6 of them are "been there, done that" for us. However, we still think we're smarter than the average crow...can't get over the fact that the fastest way to a cache is never a straight line. Thus all the bruises, scratches & bites from our bushwacking experiences. :P

Great topic countypals!!

#4 strikes a cord with us. Sometimes we are too busy looking for that ammo can that we forget were we are. Stopping to smell the roses is a good thing.Taking in the beauty that surrounds us. As we are slowly approaching #1000th we finally are learning some things about geocaching and ourselves. That it is not about the numbers and the stats at the end of the day. It's the memories and good times that are being made.If we find 2 caches in 5 hours so be it.We are finding its about the quality and not the quantity anymore. It has taken a long time for us to finally come to this, but we are so happy we did.Geocaching has finally become what is was in the beginning for us a Rockin Good Time.

Here a few more lessons to add to your list that we have learned.

Always have water on you a quick cache can turn into a 15km hike(hehehe swimmrguy)

A flashlight is a must.It comes in handy for those spots your just not to sure if you should be sticking your hand into

More batteries and more batteries( we still haven't got this one under control yet)

and the most important we have learned if the search becomes fusterating leave,go home regroup the find will be way more fulfilling when your not stressed.
