Lingham/Bushwacker

Postby kayakers2 » Tue Apr 13, 2010 8:50 am

Just testing the waters to see if there's any interest in doing Lingham Lake GCGQHP 4/4.5 & Bushwacker GC2B27 5/5. These have been on my bucket list for too long.

Two ways you can do them:

1. By canoe/kayak from the north. Easily done in a day.

2. Hike in from the south (about 30 km) which will require an overnighter at a Trappers cabin.

Let me know if you're interested.
Here's a recent tracklog from a canoe expedition from the north. I can't seem to find one for # 2.

I'm very interested to do this one--it was actually on my list to do as a milestone cache--but at the rate I'm going, it will be awhile till I get to the next "big one."

I had emailed greywynd some time ago for his tracks of their adventure--he said he'd send them to me, but I think I need to remind him...
Where are we going? And why am I in this handbasket?

I think the attachment to my original post was sent to me by greywynd but it was last year so I'm not certain. I emailed him again to see what other info we'll need. I'll be speaking to Mark this weekend.

Canoe/kayak in from the north is the best way. There is a 700 m portage from the nearest road to Lingham Lake but, if necessary, I have a wheeled canoe/kayak carrier that will make short work of the carry-over.

Gotta do it before the bug season!!!

I'm in!!!

I've had both caches on my watchlist for probably over a year now. I'd always planned to go by water but I'll go with the consensus.

I'd be up for that adventure too. Doesn't matter to me which option, they both sound like a lot of fun. Just let me know when so I can make sure I can get the time off work.
Cheers!

Great! It looks like there's enough interest to make up an expedition & start firming up some arrangements.

I assume it will be on a weekend. The weekends I have available are:

April 24/25, May 1/2, May 15/19. We should do it before bug season as there is a bit of a hike into both caches from the lake.

Kayaking from the north would be the best & easiest ( a relative term )

A good meeting place to start the trip would be Timmies at Hwys 7 & 62 in Madoc.

greywynd sent me his actual track log from their trip of several years ago. He's considering coming with us which would be great having someone with his knowledge of the area.

I will drive the access road from Weslemkoon Lake Road in to the lake this week to make sure all is good to go & we don't run into a swamped road or bridge.

Sorry I'm having trouble uploading a gdb mapsource file of greywynd's to this post for everyone to view. Help!

Of those weekends, I'm only available the April 24/25th one.

Russ, just email it to me. The forum only allows you to upload certain file types. I can put it onto the site, and then we can link to it in a forum post.

I spoke with JuicePig recently about Bushwhacker and he said that there's a way in that takes you down a four wheeler path that literally takes you to within 2 kilometers hike of the cache. I'd ask him for directions, oh yes and I'd be in as well.

Forgot to mention the weekend of April 24th there's a ton of local CITO events going on with perhaps an 8 different cache event in Eastern Ontario. Also on the May 2 weekend are all the 10th anniversary events. I'm off this Monday though, so let's go then (lol).
Cheers
