TB needs rescue in Charleston Lake

Postby hoover and root » Fri Aug 21, 2009 11:40 pm

Hello all!

We recently found TB14Q6Y at Charleston Lake and moved it to GC8B1. This cache is currently archived, but we dropped it off anyway. This is one of the nicest hikes in the area, and we highly recommend it!

Not to be rude, But why would you drop off someones TB in an archived cache, it looks like Ontario Parks, do not want it there, hence the last visit before you was August 5, 2003.

I think I can see the method to the madness. It sounds like the cache is still there. What hoover and root have done is shared with us a very rare gem. And now they've made sure others will experience it too. The TB now has to be rescued. It sounds like an excellent hike. I think before the end of the summer we will have to organize a mob hike to rescue the TB and collect the cache. Any one else up for that?

While I am at it, I should say welcome to hoover and root. While I don't know them personally, I do know that they are some of the original Kingston geocachers. They also set up the original KAG mailing list. It's nice to them here. Babel Fish is still one of my favourite caches. I hope they will visit more often.

Cheers! B)

I wish we knew about this cache last August when we did the Covey's Gap and Courage Cove caches. If someone does go on a rescue mission "by boat" having Covey's Gap and Courage Cove in close proximity might give someone a little more incentive to go. That is assuming they haven't already done those caches.

We'll be camping at Charleston Lake the week of Sept 7 & will be paddling & hiking right by the archived cache location. Will pick up the TB if someone doesn't get it before then.
If anyone wants to kayak (our preferred way) with us, please let us know by email prior to Sept 7 so that we can set aside a day.

I've been away or I would have replied sooner...

I want to echo ace862's welcome to Hoover and Root--the original author of the name "Kingston Area Geocachers" It really is great to have you here!

Like mTn_biKer65 said, I wish I knew that the cache was still there when we did our paddle to Courage Cove and Covey's Gap last year. But I do have the incentive to go again. I have always wanted to hike that loop, and now there is something to look for. Though it would be fun to paddle to it as well. Choices...choices...

Ok, according to Cache-tech's log on November 14, 2003 the cache was supposed to have been removed by the Park.

This cache was removed by the Park staff at a local level. I have been speaking with Park Officials( November 5th was our last contact) who have asked that no new caches be approved, but said they would not be seeking the removal of caches all ready in place by their office. This did not guarantee that caches would not be removed by Parks staff at individual Provincial Parks. I am sorry to see this cache removed and will ask in our next meeting. There are no regulations in place at this time.

What gives and why was in not removed?

Welcome back Hover & Root, hope we see you on the trails or at a Kingston event soon.
